How cloakrooms use the number
Wikipedia says a ticket or receipt is typically given to the customer, with a corresponding ticket attached to the garment or item.
Gloucester Guildhall’s cloakroom policy, opened on 4 November 2026, says that on depositing an item the guest receives a numbered ticket which corresponds with the item, and that the ticket is required to reclaim it. If the ticket is lost, proof of ownership must be provided.
FOSDEM’s volunteer documentation lists its cloakroom steps. Volunteers attach numbered tags and give matching claim tickets to visitors. To return an item they collect the claim ticket, locate the matching numbered item and verify the numbers match before handing it over.
Where vFound fits
In vFound Checkroom the guest’s ticket is a private page on their phone, reached by scanning a QR code or checking in on their phone. A venue that also wants paper can print paired hanger tags and thermal ticket stubs. When a guest has lost their ticket, staff still check who the guest is before handing anything back.
