The bag reached the depot. Its owner got off six stops earlier.
Transit lost and found software gives a central lost property office one photographed, searchable record of everything collected from buses, trains, ferries and stations, so riders can check by photo, report what they lost and claim online, instead of calling to describe one of many black umbrellas.
With vFound, items are logged with the route, vehicle or station where they were found and the depot or shelf where they are held, and riders recognize their belongings by sight on your own branded page.
Why transit lost property is a volume problem
Drivers, cleaners and station staff find items at the end of every route: umbrellas, backpacks, phones, earbuds, laptops, reading glasses, school bags, travel passes, wallets and pushchairs. Items are bagged at the depot and sent on to the lost property office, often a day or more later, while the rider has already started calling.
The items are also alike. A log entry reading “black backpack, route 12” describes a dozen bags in the same week. Matching by phone description is slow for staff and discouraging for riders, and a paper log cannot tell a caller whether their bag is still at the depot or already at the central office.
From end of route to the lost property office
Depot and office staff log items in the browser on any phone, tablet or desk computer, with nothing to install. Each item gets a title, category, where it was found (route, vehicle, station, platform or ferry), where it is stored, the found date and tags.
- Run one central page for the whole network, with each item’s stored location showing which depot or office holds it.
- Riders search by keyword, category and the date they travelled, any time, with no account and no app.
- On Pro, several photos per item help riders tell one black backpack from another.
- On Pro, every staff member has their own login, so each log, decision and handover carries a name.
Riders who report before the item arrives
Because items take time to reach the office, many riders ask before their item is logged. In vFound they can report what they lost, see possible matches straight away, and get one email if a matching item is logged later. Matching is a suggestion based on text and category; the rider confirms by looking at the photo.
Staff see these reports in the workspace and can turn one into a claim. Riders can also set a lost-item alert for your network, so the answer reaches them instead of the phone line.
Verification, holding periods and handover
Claims collect private identifying details, with category-specific questions for phones, laptops, bags and wallets, and riders can attach proof photos. Staff accept or decline, then mark the claim ready for pickup or ready for shipment. Your office sets its own holding period, expiring items are surfaced before they lapse, and CSV export is available on both plans for your own records.
Frequently asked questions
Does vFound connect to our fleet, ticketing or customer service systems?+
No. vFound is a standalone lost property system that runs in the browser. It records found items, claims and returns, and does not exchange data with other operator systems. CSV export on both plans lets you take your records out whenever you need them.
Can depots and the central office share one record?+
Yes. Every depot and the lost property office can log into the same workspace, and each item shows where it was found and where it is stored. If you prefer separate pages, one login can manage multiple venues, each with its own subscription.
How do riders search among so many similar items?+
By photo first. Riders filter by the date they travelled and the category, then recognize their own bag or umbrella by sight. Photo capture and photo-led browsing are part of the Pro plan; Starter is text-based.
What about travel passes, bank cards and IDs?+
List them with the photo kept private to staff. The item remains findable by its description while the name and number stay inside your team and become the verification question. Follow your own policy for cards and identity documents.
What does it cost for a large network?+
Pricing is per venue, not per rider. Pro is US$129/month or US$774/year, with unlimited items, team members and storage, photo capture, reports and bulk actions. Starter is US$79/month or US$474/year for 100 new items a year and one team member. Both include a 14-day trial with no card required.
